Reception STEM Week 1

What an exciting week in Reception! After Evil Pea announced he had captured Supertato and taken him to a desert island, Reception swiftly set about designing and building boats to rescue Supertato. They have conducted floating and sinking experiments, measured amounts and lengths, written numerous wanted posters for the ever elusive Evil Pea and used DT joins to make cardboard traps. 

A huge thank you to our absolutely brilliant paramedic parent, who came in with so many incredible pieces of equipment and advice - pitched perfectly for Reception children. They were enthralled and she received some great questions!

On Friday, children took part in Tech Superhero day, using the app Chatterpix to create their own Supertato talking character and using spheros to programme possible routes to the desert island. As budding engineers, children are increasingly able to reflect on their plans and evaluate what they could do differently, e.g. turn down the speed, change the direction, make the obstacle course longer/shorter. They absolutely loved dressing up as Superheroes!
