Admissions Policy

The school’s  number for Reception entry is 60. Where no places are available over subscription criteria are used to determine allocation of places.

Any families wishing to visit school prior to applying for a place are most welcome.  Two open mornings will be advertised locally and on the school website, one during the Autumn term and the second in the summer term.

Admissions for Reception and transfers from other schools are co-ordinated by the Local Authority.

The Online Portal for Admissions to First and Primary Schools opens on 1 November 2026 and closes on the 15 January 2027. You must complete an application for a place in a Reception class even if your child attends the school nursery or pre-school setting. Further information can be found on the School Admissions page by following the link Reception Admissions or by calling the admissions team on 0345 600 6400.

You can access the Citizen Portal and apply for a Reception place here;

School Place Appeals

How to appeal a school place decision

School Admissions CodeSchool Admissions Appeals Code

The purpose of these codes is to ensure that the admission appeal panel is independent and that appeals are conducted in a fair, transparent and lawful way.

You are legally entitled to appeal against the admission authority's decision to refuse a place at your preferred school(s). Accepting a place at an alternative school does not affect your child's place on the reserve list for your preferred school(s), or your right of appeal.

Your appeal will be heard by an independent school admission appeals panel. The panel's decision is binding on all parties: the school, the admission authority and you.

Families can find out more and appeal via this link;

Nursery Admissions

Nursery is an integral part of Sele First School and alongside the Reception classes is part of Early Years.   Nursery provides children with the best possible start to their education.  One teacher and two qualified and experienced teaching assistants work alongside the children.  Additional staff support children with individual needs.

Nursery places are available for five mornings or five afternoons per week or two full days and one half day per week (afternoon session for the half day). For parents eligible for the 30 hour offer we do cater for these additional hours – please contact the school office to discuss hours and availability.

Children staying full days have a school lunch.

We also offer paid Nursery spaces if you are not entitled to additional funded hours.  This is currently £5.80 per hour.  Please contact the school office for further information.

Applications for Nursery September 2027 opens on Tuesday 2 September.

Please find our Nursery Admissions Policy and application form below for September 2026 entry.
