Year 3 Week 3: From Magma to Metamorphic: Discovering the Rock Cycle

This week in Science, the children have been learning all about the rock cycle. We explored how different types of rocks are formed and discovered the processes that change rocks over time, including heating, cooling, pressure and erosion.

The class discussed the three main types of rocks – igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic – and how they are all connected within the rock cycle. We looked at examples of rocks and thought about how they might have been formed.

To show their understanding, the children worked hard to create informative posters explaining the rock cycle. They included labelled diagrams, key vocabulary and clear explanations of how rocks can change from one type to another. The posters were colourful, creative and showed some fantastic scientific knowledge.
