Year 3 Week 5: Row, Paint, Repeat: Exploring Regattas

This week, members of Tyne Amateur Rowing Club visited school to talk about rowing as a modern sport. They explained how rowers train, the teamwork involved, and what it feels like to compete in regattas today. Pupils were fascinated to learn how modern equipment compares with traditional wooden boats.

The session linked perfectly with our Take One Picture project, where we're exploring The Regatta on the Grand Canal by Canaletto. Pupils looked closely at how the artist captured movement, reflection, and celebration on the water, and are creating their own artwork inspired by both the historic painting and the modern regatta spirit.

Pupils were even surprised to find a rowing boat had made its way into school, the children were able to step aboard and give rowing a go themselves.

Thank you to Sandra and John from Tyne Amateur Rowing Club for their support!
