Starting to write in Reception

As we come to the end of our single letter sounds in phonics, Reception are starting to use their knowledge to write words! They labelled objects they could see in the Regatta on the Grand Canal, e.g. 'g' for gondola, 'bt' for boat. We are so impressed with everyone's skills!

Children sculpted clay gondolas as part of their final piece. They used fine tools to etch different patterns.

In Maths, we worked on 1:1 correspondence - counting each object accurately. Children used ten frames to organise their objects and see amounts more clearly. They loved correcting the puppet who kept making counting mistakes in Maths Meetings. Around the classroom, we used pictograms on clipboards to find out everyone's favourite fruit. Children talked about which fruit was the most and least popular by counting their results.

We are enjoying different outdoor spaces around school too, including the treehouse area and courtyard.
