Masks!

This week, Year 2 have been exploring Venetian culture through mask making, inspired by A Regatta on the Grand Canal as part of our Take One Picture project. The children began by learning about traditional Venetian masks and their role in festivals like Carnevale. They then designed their own masks, choosing between a full-face or half-mask style, and planned how they would decorate them. Using a shared mould and modroc (plaster bandages), they created their mask casts, learning how to layer, shape, and smooth the material. We’re looking forward to seeing how they bring them to life with colour and decoration next!
