Looking at the local area in Reception

This week, Reception focussed on Hexham and the landscape of where they live. They walked to the top of the Sele, noticing what was around them. They talked about all the trees and wildlife they could see and how they couldn't see sky scrapers and lots of cars. Children noticed different types of houses, the stream, the hills, Egger, the Abbey and how many things they could spot closer to school.

Conversations included noticing that the trees were in leaf so you couldn't see the playground and learning that a row of houses was called a 'terrace'.

Back in school, they supported this by looking at Hexham on Google Earth. On Friday, they will walk to the top of the Sele to draw what they can see!

In Maths, children are learning to add more using First, Then, Now stories.
